Description
This was a gorgeous awl in its day, and it's still a beautiful tool,BUT
the handle broke and has been poorly glued back together.
The handle wood is dense and heavy. I don't know what kind of wood it is. My best guess is that it's lignum vitae.
The ferrule appears to be well worn nickel-plated brass. It has a hairline crack.
The steel shaft is solid and straight. It is 3/16" diameter at the base and 5.5" long. It has one spot of surface oxidation. Nothing serious.
The wood handle is approximately 2" diameter at its widest point. Including ferrule, the handle is about 3.5" long.
Total length of the tool is 9"
This awl can be used as it is. It is a solid, useful tool.
BUT
the broken-and-glued-back-together handle detracts from it's appearance.
I'm offering it here as a restoration project. I'm thinking the tool could be taken apart, the damaged handle could be used as a pattern for a new one, and the ferrule might be reusable (but it might not), and the solid old-steel awl shaft can definitely be reused.
The choice is yours. Either way, you'll have a fine old tool like no one makes these days.
I will promptly ship this project awl to you by USPS First Class.
Thank you.
